Initiating KDU-MAS Management Learning Application (MAL) Programme

The world is increasingly shifting towards sustainable business practices, and the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and MAS Athena are leading the way in developing Management Application Learning (MAL) Programme, especially in Energy Conservation and Water Management. This is a joint programme aimed at two target groups; Management and Technical Sciences (MTS) students and any undergraduate or professional willing to gain practical exposure in energy conservation and water management.

This certificate programme is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage energy and water resources in a business setting. The participants will be designated as ‘Accredited Energy Managers’ upon successful completion of the programme.

One of the most significant benefits of this programme is the practical exposure participants would receive, including site visits and case studies that provide hands-on experience in managing energy and water resources in a real-world setting. This will help participants gain valuable insights and be better equipped to handle any challenges that may arise.

Dr. Namali Sirisoma, Mr. Lahiru Gunathilake, Mr. Anju Illangasekara, and Ms. Esala Malawithanthri represented KDU in the initial syllabus development and had the initial discussion and verbal agreement with Mr. Harsha Deraniyagala, General Manager- Hydro and Environmental and Mr. Deepal Lokugalappaththi, Deputy General Manager at MAS Fabric Park Ltd. during the two-day residential programme from 3rd April 2023 to 4th April 2023 at MAS Athena premises. This collaboration between KDU and MAS Athena brings together the expertise of both institutions to create a world-class programme aimed at promoting sustainable business practices.

In conclusion, the Management Application Learning Programme developed by KDU and MAS Athena is an excellent initiative aimed at promoting sustainable business practices. By focusing on energy conservation and water management, the programme equips participants with the necessary skills to manage these critical resources effectively. The collaboration between KDU and MAS Athena promises to deliver a high-quality programme that will produce competent professionals equipped to address the challenges of sustainable business practices.
