Field Visit of Intake 39 Social Sciences Students to Urban Development Authority and Central Environmental Authority
On October 14, 2022, Intake 39 students of the BSc in Social Sciences degree programme made a one-day visit to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) and the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to gain hands-on experience related to urban planning and environmental protection.
During the first half of the day, the students visited the UDA in Sethsiripaya. The officials of the UDA explained its functions, organizational structure, mission to promote integrated planning, and challenges. The second half of the day was allocated to CEA, and students were able to improve their awareness of the legal framework behind environmental protection, the regulatory powers of CEA, environmental impact assessment, and the integrated environmental protection efforts of CEA. In addition, the students were able to visit several laboratories at the CEA as well.
The students were accompanied by Emeritus Professor – P. Hewage, Head of the Department – Mr. Nuwan Herath, and Senior Lecturer – Hemantha Premarathne during this visit.
