The Tenth Lecture of the Short Course on “Cultural Linkages towards an Asian Ideology” 2023/2024
The tenth lecture of the Short Course on “Cultural Linkages towards an Asian Ideology” for the academic year 2023/24 was presented by Dr. Lakshika Liyanage. Her lecture, titled “Gender Perspective in Community Development in Asia: The Role of Asian Women” took place on January 02nd, 2024 from 1500 to 1620 via Zoom.
Dr. Lakshika Liyanage is the Dean, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences.
Dr. Liyanage holds a PhD in Mental Health Social Work, a MA in Social Work Studies from the University of Durham, and a BA (Special) in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.She has over 15 years of experience in lecturing, research, and consultancy in Psychology, Mental Health and Social Work fields, and has held various important positions at the National Institute of Social Development, multiple Defence academies in Sri Lanka, the University of Kelaniya, the Sri Lanka Foundation and the University of Durham.
The course is organized for the fourth consecutive year by the Department of Social Sciences, FMSH under a generous research grant awarded by the Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) in Japan. This course is scheduled to run from October 2023 to March 2024, catering to a select group of undergraduate students in intake 40, representing diverse faculties within KDU.
