Film Festival at KDU Celebrates Cinematic Arts with French Flair

The Centre for Media Studies, Department of Social Sciences in collaboration with the French Embassy in Sri Lanka, recently hosted a vibrant film festival at KDU. The festival, which ran on July 11, July 18, July 25, and August 1, 2024, showcased a diverse array of films from renowned French directors, highlighting the rich cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and France.

The inaugural event was honored by the presence of several distinguished guests. The Vice Chancellor of KDU, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), graced the occasion with his presence. Also in attendance was Ms. Marie-Noelle Duris, Chargé d’Affaires at the French Embassy in Colombo, the Guest of Honor and Deputy Vice Chancellor of KDU Major General DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, who was a special guest at the festival.

The festival featured the following films:

  2. Bigger than Us directed by Flore Vasseur
  3. Suprêmes directed by Audrey Estrougo
  4. Divertimento directed by Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar

Each screening offered audiences a glimpse into the cinematic prowess of French filmmakers, reinforcing the cultural ties between the two nations and celebrating the art of storytelling through film.
