Department of Social Sciences Students Shine at General Convocation

The General Convocation held in October 2024 at the BMICH was a moment of pride for the Department of Social Sciences, as its students achieved exceptional accolades, showcasing outstanding academic and leadership excellence. Hashini De Silva, WDRS Wickramarachchi, MVC Sakya, AWMKR Kapilarathne, and DR Nanayakkara demonstrated remarkable accomplishments, setting a new standard for success.

Hashini De Silva, a graduate of Intake 38 from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), stood out as an exceptional performer. Graduating with First Class Honours and a BSc. in Social Sciences, she secured a GPA of 3.86 and ranked first in her stream. Her outstanding academic achievements were recognized with two of the most prestigious awards: the Trophy for the Best Overall Performance in Academic Studies in the Social Sciences Stream and the Gold Medal for the Best Performance in the Social Sciences Degree (Management). Beyond academics, Hashini enriched her university experience through leadership roles and international programs, exemplifying the well-rounded education offered by KDU.

Equally noteworthy were the remarkable achievements of WDRS Wickramarachchi and MVC Sakya, who brought honor to the Department of Social Sciences through their leadership, dedication, and service.

WDRS Wickramarachchi, a graduate of Intake 37 and a Student Officer from the Sri Lankan Air Force, was awarded the Trophy for the Best Student Officer from the Sri Lankan Air Force. Throughout his academic journey, he showcased exceptional commitment to both his studies and military training, reflecting the values of discipline, excellence, and perseverance that KDU instills in its students.

MVC Sakya, also from Intake 37, excelled as a Student Officer representing the Sri Lanka Army. His outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Trophy for the Best Student Officer from the Sri Lanka Army. His ability to balance rigorous military responsibilities with academic excellence highlights his dedication to personal and professional growth.

Additionally, AWMKR Kapilarathne received the Gold Medal for the Best Performance in the Social Sciences Degree (Geography), while DR Nanayakkara was recognized with the Gold Medal for the Best Performance in the Social Sciences Degree (Economics). Their accomplishments further reflect the high academic standards upheld by the department.
