Expert Consultation for a Docudrama on NVC and Media conducted by the Department of Social Sciences, FMSH

The project on ‘Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and Responsible Use of Media’ organized by the Department of Social Sciences in-partnership with the UNDP will be producing a docudrama or in other words a film which is a dramatization of actual events. The docudrama will be related to NVC and Media and will be produced by the students of the Department of Social Sciences.

A session to obtain the guidance of Media and NVC experts for the making of this documentary was held on 04th July 2021 from 1900 hrs to 2130 hrs via Zoom. The following professionals took time off their busy schedules to share their valuable knowledge, expertise and guidance with the staff and students of KDU:

Mr. Sadda Mangala Sooriyabandara: Senior Journalist, Media personality and Script Writer.

Ms. Ramanusha Poopaalaratnem: Certified Trainer in Non-Violent Communication.

Ms. Wimarshana Ranasinghe: Facilitator in Peacebuilding and Non-Violent Communication. 

Mr. Ashoka Shanthakumara:  Media Consultant for the overall project 

Apart from the above professionals, the event was witnessed by Mr. Kithsiri Amaratunga – Dean of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Nuwan Herath – Head of the Department of Social Sciences, and Maj. Thusitha De Silva – Officer in charge of the KDU Dancing Troupe. The session was hosted by Dr. Hemantha Premarathne – Coordinator for the Project on NVC and Responsible Use of Media.

The past and present students of the Department of Social Sciences contributed their ideas and developed eight scripts for the documentary, out of which three scripts were chosen for the above consultation with the experts. Over 100 students, both Officer Cadets and Day Scholars from past and present intakes participated in the discussion.
