Management and Economics Filed Visit 2024 - MAS Intimates Unichela - Panadura

Intake 41 students of the Department of Social Sciences visited the production plant of MAS Intimates Unichela in Panadura on the 12th September 2024.

The objective of this visit was for the students to receive an introduction and exposure to the field of management practices prior to their industrial training. Further, it will stimulate students to enhance their skills and talents before they step into the competitive corporate sector. The field visit provided students with an opportunity to observe, up close and personally, the operations of one of Sri Lanka’s largest apparel exporters and manufacturing plants.

Ms. Chamedi Liyanaratne and Ms. Upuli Weerasinghe, Human Resources Executives at MAS Unichela, offered an overview of the company, including its history, operational progress, and management structure. Additionally, a video demonstration showcased the manufacturing process at the production plant prior to the factory visit. Furthermore, technical experts from each division (raw materials, cutting, the moulding section, and sewing) dedicated time to provide the students with in-depth explanations regarding the operations, production processes, and quality measures of their respective sections of the plant.

This unique opportunity provided to observe application of management theories learnt in the classroom in a practical setting was of a great value and has served to motivate students eager to enter the industry.

The Department of Social Sciences extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Management team and the staff of MAS Intimates Unichela in Panadura for their generous support and accommodation.
