The fifth lecture of the Short Course on “Cultural Linkages towards an Asian Ideology” 2022/23 was delivered by Dr. Lakshika Liyanage on “Gender Perspective in Community Development in Asia: The Role of Asian Women on 8th December 2022 from 1500 to 1635 via Zoom. 

Dr. Lakshika Liyanage is the Director of the Center for Gender Equity and Equality at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and a former Head of the Department and a present Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities of KDU. 

Dr. Liyanage holds a PhD and Master of Social Work from the University of Durham in the UK and a BA specializing in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. She has over 15 years of experience in lecturing, research and consultancy in the Psychology, Mental Health and Social Work fields, and has held various important positions at the National Institute of Social Development, multiple Defence academies in Sri Lanka, the University of Kelaniya, the Sri Lanka Foundation and the University of Durham.

The course is organized for the 3rd consecutive year by the Department of Social Sciences, FMSH under a research grant awarded by the Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) in Japan and will be held from October 2022 to February 2023 for a selected group of undergraduates representing all Faculties of KDU.
