TESOL Students Host an Engaging English Camp and a Book Donation Drive at Ilukpitiya Kanishta Vidyalaya

Intake 39 TESOL students embraced yet another opportunity (exactly one year after their previous camps), to host an English Language improvement camp, this time at Ilukpitiya Kanishta Vidyalaya, in Deniyaya. Over two memorable days on April 26th and 27th, students from grades 1 to 11 were treated to a series of engaging activities designed to enhance their English language skills.

With reflections and experience from the previous camps, Intake 39 TESOL students crafted interactive lessons and games tailored to the different interests and ages of the students. From communicative activities to language-based games, every activity aimed to make learning English both enjoyable and effective. The camp fostered an inclusive environment where students felt empowered to participate and express themselves confidently.

Additionally, the undergraduates organized a book donation drive at KDU including undergraduates from other faculties and university staff from the entire university before the camp, collecting a wealth of books to be a part of the school’s library.

Accompanying the Intake 39 students, a distinguished group including the Deputy Vice Chancellor Defence and Administration Major General Chinthaka Wickramasinghe, Lt. Col.  Wimnasha Abeyawickrama, Prof. Bimali Indrarathne, Ms. Ganga Herath, Ms. Esala Malawithantri and Mr. Sameera Jayawardana aided the group with the camp preparation on and off-site.

In spirit of collaboration and learning, the English Language camp and the book donation drive exemplify the transformative power of collective action in creating positive change within communities. As Intake 39 TESOL students continue on their educational journey, their dedication to service and learning will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact wherever their paths may lead.
