KDU has been successful in becoming a part of the three Sri-Lankan universities selected for the UNICYCLE grant offered by the British Council. University of Jaffna and Uwa Wellassa University are the two other selected universities. The three local universities are collaboratively working with the Glasgow Caledonian University which is the partner university in the UK. Moreover, this will expand new horizons for collaborative researches between the KDU and the Glasgow Caledonian University.
Ms.Wasana Sudusinghe is coordinating the project representing the Department of Languages of KDU ,and five academic members from the Department of Languages namely Major Wimansha Abeywickrama (Head of the Department of Languages), Ms.Nalinika Rajapakse, Ms.Esala Malawathanthri, Ms.Ganga Herath and Ms.Wasana Sudusinghe have successfully completed the Facilitator Development Workshop offered by the British Council under the supervision of master facilitator Mike Waldron from the UK.
As the next phase of the programme more than 80 students from the two-degree programmes of BA in TESOL and BSc in ADSC offered by the Department of Languages are trained by the five trained facilitators from KDU. Afterwards the students will conduct collaborative researches and social action projects with the partners from the UK and Sri Lanka.
Through this project, KDU intends to meet the outcomes expected by the Active Citizens programme,
“Going Global Partnership aims at building stronger, more inclusive, internationally connected higher education which support economic and social growth. This programme provides opportunity to connect, collaborate and innovate with universities, colleges, education policy makers and other partners in the UK and around the world. Further it facilitates the students to engage in collaborative researches with local and partner universities in the UK. In addition, it becomes a strong force in strengthening the inter-cultural awareness, trust and mutual understanding among local and foreign community”.
