Personal Grooming session

Nowadays, the job market is very competitive, and the employers are looking for not just education qualifications but mostly multifaceted skills from their employees. This has been identified as a challenge for the fresh graduates who are stepping up to the industry if they do not meet this expectation. And we, at the Department of Management and Finance, also received the same feedback from employers through our industry visits that our undergraduates need to develop their personal image. By taking this to consideration, we planned a personal grooming session with the collaboration of WiLAT (Women in Logistics and Transportation), Sri Lanka, and WCIC/Zonta (Women Chamber of Industries and Commerce).

The session was conducted by Mrs. Nayana Karunaratne, who is a renowned Sri Lankan beautician and a fashion designer of international repute. She owns the company called Salon Nayana established in 1980 and a founder of Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) established in 1996. She was recognized as the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 and gold medal winner for the Business category – Large, at the annual awards ceremony, organized by the Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, with a focus on evaluating the performance of women in business.

The dean of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Namali Sirisoma, and Senior Lecturer Dr. Kalpana Ambepitiya were taking part in organizing this session.
