History of the Department

Department of Management and Finance - Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities - General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University KDU

The Department of Management and Finance started from 2010 onwards after the restructuring programme of the KDU.  But there were two degree programmes which were related to the Management were conducted by the former Department of Social Sciences and Humanities way back to 28 September 1981 with 14 cadets in Intake 2.

The Bachelor of Science in Management and Technical Science (Defence Studies) Degree programme commenced from Intake 12onwards, mainly for the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force.The B.Sc. Management and Technical (Defence Studies) Sciences was the second degree programme started under the Department of Social Sciences. The Bachelor of Commerce (Defence Studies) Degree Programme was introduced in 1999 for Intake 16 under this department, with the assistance of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The total number of graduated officers by the end of 2010 BSc (Defence Studies) in MTS Degree 324 and BCom (Defence Studies) Degree 193. According to the new structure of KDU, there are four Faculties and Management,Social Sciences and Humanities is one out of that.

The Department of Management and Finance introduced BSc in Logistics Management programme instead of BCom (Defence Studies) Degree programme due to the requirements of services.Further the Department of Management and Finance was given the authority to offer the BSc in Management and Technical Sciences degree programme from 2010 onwards. After that the department revised the curriculum of the BSc in logestice degree programme.
