The KDU Entrepreneurship Lab (KDU E-LAB), under the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities (FMSH), was successfully launched today. The occasion was honoured by the presence of Dr Upali Rajapaksha, Head of the Department of Management and Finance; Dr. Tamara Wijesundara, Head of the Department of Social Sciences; and Dr. Thilini Wijethunga, Head of the Department of Languages.
Under the guidance of Dr. Kalpana Ambepitiya, Chairperson of the KDU Entrepreneurship Lab and Head of the UNESCO Entrepreneurship Education Network – Sri Lanka Chapter, the operational team of the KDU E-LAB was introduced. Mr Lahiru Gunathilaka and Ms Kumuduni Weerasinghe from the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities; Mr Dananjaya Karunarathna from the Faculty of Engineering; Ms Hasali Karunarathna, Ms Dinithi Liyanage, Ms Tharushila Sooriyaarachchi, Ms G.V.Y. Anuththara, Ms Hansi Perera, and Ms Gayanika Silva from the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities formed the initial steering committee of the KDU E-LAB. Representing the student wing, of the KDU Entrepreneurship Club, Ms. Nuyara Vithanage, Vice President of the Club, also marked her presence on this special occasion.
This lab will serve as a cornerstone for entrepreneurship education and research, with secondary objectives of fostering faculty collaboration, providing incubation and support services, and engaging with the broader community. To achieve these goals, the KDU Entrepreneurship Lab will operate across three levels: interfaculty at KDU, higher education institutes and schools across the island, and the broader community to promote entrepreneurship education and research. The E-LAB also plans to establish international collaborations with other National Chapters of the UNESCO Entrepreneurship Education Network in the Asia-Pacific Region in the future.
