One of the most anticipated events of KDU Calendar, the “KDU Logistics Day’ was organized by the Technical Sciences and Management Society of the Department of Management and Finance, was successfully concluded on the 7th of May 2021 for the 7th consecutive year despite trying circumstances of the COVID 19 pandemic situation.
The occasion was graced by Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil, the Vice-Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University as the Chief Guest, and Captain Ravindra Jayawickreme, the Chief Executive Officer of Hambantota International Port Services (Pvt) Ltd as the Guest of Honor.
Due to the prevailing situation in the country, this annual event had to be given a novel outlook by making it the first-ever virtual Logistics Day of the University, and it was centered on the timely theme of ‘Smart Supply Chain Management; The Dawn of a New Era’, with the motive of emphasizing supply chain transformation through digitization and digitalization. The event also featured the launching ceremony of the sixth edition of Logistics Times magazine, which is Sri Lanka’s first-ever logistics magazine
In addition to the insightful speeches by both Guest of Honour and Mr. Channaka De Alwis, President Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka, the panel discussion partaken by the top professionals in the industry disseminated important knowledge among the audience on the latest trends in the industry.
This year’s event marked a significant milestone with revolutionary initiatives such as the KDU Logistics Challenge and the Monthly Educational Webinar series conducted in parallel with the main event. Along with the announcement of winners of the KDU Logistics Challenge 2021 and its award ceremony, this event of grandeur ended while fulfilling its primary objective of showcasing the outstanding potential of young undergraduates of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and in addition allowing undergraduates of other universities to enhance their soft skills preparing them for professionalism in the future. With all of this momentous events, the day was brought to an end as a monumental success reaching another great milestone in the university history.
