The Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) successfully conducted its Career Fair for the second consecutive year on the 6th of June 2019, at the premises of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS). This year, the target group of students was the Intake 34 day scholars of BSc – Logistics Management, Management and Technical Sciences and Social Sciences. The Career Fair continues to grow catering to two prime objectives: to support students to find worthwhile internship placements and to provide opportunities to recently passed out FMSH graduates who look for better permanent employment in leading companies of the country.
Representing key industries, there were 33 leading local and international companies at the FMSH Career Fair. In comparison to the previous year, a remarkable increase in their participation proved that the Sri Lankan corporate sector is truly fascinated with our students’ competency and commitment.
This year, students of FMSH creatively organized the event, which consisted of a charming inaugural session followed by a face-to-face interview session. The event was graced by, Brigadier N Hathurusinghe psc IG Hdmc, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration), as the chief guest. Further Professor MHJ Ariyaratne, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); Brigadier JMC Jayaweera RSP psc, Dean of FDSS; Senior Professor SR De Alwis Seneviratne, Acting Dean, Research and Development; Dr. Namali Sirisoma, Dean, FMSH; Ms. Chethana Liyanage, CEO, Maharaja Institute of Management; Dr. Chaminda Wijethilake, Head, Department of Management and Finance; Dr. Hemantha Premarathne, Head, Department of Social Sciences; Dr. Upali Rajapaksha, Co-Coordinator of Career Fair; Dr. Nishani Rathnayake, Co-Coordinator of Career Fair and a student of Intake 34 inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional oil lamp.
The second session was based on student interviews with companies. The main companies that participated at the session were: Siam City Cement, John Keells Holdings PLC, South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd, Morison PLC, Dialog Axiata PLC, Brandix Essentials, The Capital Maharaja Organization, Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd, MAS Active, MAS Kreeda, MAS Capital (Pvt) Ltd, Hambanthota International Port Group, Hayleys Fentons, Melstacorp PLC, Hirdaramani PLC, CASS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, GEX Logistics, GPV Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, DP Logistics, MAS Silueta, Expo Freight (EFL), MAS Intimates, Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd, Hayleys Advantis Limited, 3w Education Consultants, Abans Group, Vanguard Survey (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Shipping, Techno Medic, MAERSK Company, and IFS R&D. The feedback of company representatives was extremely positive; thus, many of our students received placement opportunities on the spot, while others were called for further interviews at the respective company branches.
This second FMSH Career Fair was adjudged and marked as one of the best events of KDU as it opened up tremendous opportunities to our students to interact with the industry. That moment was absolutely unforgettable for students and it was a pleasure to note that most of them could achieve what they dreamed of. Therefore, this historical event added a number of prospects for the next year’s Career Fair as well. The event was coordinated by Dr. Upali Rajapaksha (Senior Lecturer, Department of Management and Finance), Dr. Nishani Rathnayake (Senior Lecturer, Department of Social Sciences) and Mr. Champika Gunasekera (Senior Assistant Registrar – FMSH), under the guidance of the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Namali Sirisoma.
