“Decolonizing Research and Thinking: KDU IRC Post-Conference Workshop led by Professor Nihal Perera”

News

The Post Conference Workshop on the 12th of September 2023 was a remarkable educational event conducted by distinguished Professor Nihal Perera. Professor Perera, an emeritus professor in Urban Planning and Development at Ball State University, USA, brought his extensive knowledge and expertise to this enriching experience.

The workshop drew a diverse and engaged audience, consisting of students from both FMSH (Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities) and from Faculty of Law. The central theme of the workshop revolved around the critical and timely topic of “Decolonizing Research and Thinking.” Professor Perera led a thought-provoking lecture and a discussion, providing attendees with valuable insights into the process of dismantling colonial paradigms within research and intellectual discourse. It’s worth noting that the Post Conference Workshop on decolonizing research and thinking was the sole post-conference workshop featured at IRC 2023. This exclusivity heightened its significance and underscored its unique contribution to the conference’s overall content.

Following the program’s conclusion, a plaque was presented to the resource person as a token of appreciation. Dr. Lakshika Liyanage, Dean of FMSH, had the honor of making the presentation. Also present were Mr. Kithsiri Amaratunge, the former Dean of FMSH; Dr. Aruna Darshana, Chair of IRC 2023; and Mr. Dulitha Hewadikaram, Co secretary of IRC, whose contributions were pivotal to the program’s success. This plaque symbolizes our gratitude for the resource person’s invaluable insights and collaborative efforts.
