FMSH Sessions at KDU IRC – 2018

Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) organized a number of academic sessions at the 11th KDU IRC held on 13th and 14th September, 2018. The sessions included a plenary session, a poster session and a number of technical sessions within the two – days of the conference.

FMSH plenary session was chaired by Prof. Sarath Amunugama, Emeritus Professor in French and former Vice – Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; and the main speakers of the session were Prof. NS Cooray, Prof. HD Karunaratne, Prof. Ajantha S Dharmasiri and Dr. Udaya Indrarathne. One of the main highlights at the plenary session was the launch of the new faculty website. The Dean of the Faculty Dr. Namali Sirisoma along with the heads of the departments launched the newly designed website at the end of the session.

The final event of the day one of the conference was the poster presentation session where fourteen posters were presented. Among the presentations, the poster presented by TD Kothalawala and CJ Kothalawala under the title “Using Visual Spatial Intelligence Based Activities to Develop Writing Skills” won the ‘Best Poster Presentation’ award.

The second day of the conference was allocated to technical sessions and the faculty organized eleven technical sessions, comprised of seven technical sessions for the field of Management and two technical sessions each for the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. Altogether, more than 40 academic papers were presented during the technical sessions of the three respective fields. The papers presented by SD Weerathunga and GRSRC Samaraweera under the title “Determinants of Moonlighting of Teaching Professionals in Sri Lanka” and Aparna Hettiarachchi on “A Palimpsestuous Reading of Shehan Karunatilaka’s Chinaman – Power Dynamics of the Palimpsest of Sri Lankan English” won the awards for Best Oral Presentations of the technical sessions.
