Session was chaired by Professor Anoma Abeyrathne, University of Peradeniya. Presenters of the session were Professor Lalith Ananda, Dr. Nishan De Mel, Dr. Sharon McCulloch and Ms. Roshani Muhandiram. Ms. Roshani Muhandiram is the General Manager (Lean) Interloop Ltd, Pakistan and also a highly skilled Lean Leader with more than 10 years of experience in leading teams to deliver organizational transformation using Lean/Six Sigma Tools & Techniques. She is also a senior change coach with a track record of tangible business impact. Ms. Roshani Muhandiram’s presentation was titled as future of Sri Lankan Industries with lean Manufacturing. In her presentation she explained the theory of Lean Management , importance of Lean management and how to implement Lean Management. Dr. Nishan De Mel also presented his research in the area of management and finance titling as “Two overlooked methods for improving taxation and social support, for successful economic revival. Dr. Nishan de Mel is the Executive Director of Verité Research (Pvt) Limited, which provides analytical research and advisory services on economic, political and legal issues in Sri Lanka and Asia. He is an economist with extensive academic, policy and private sector experience as well.
Technical session: Management & Finance
Technical sessions of Management and Finance department were successfully conducted on 30th September, 2022. There were two technical sessions in the morning and afternoon. The morning session was chaired by Dr. Nuresh Eranda, Senior Lecturer of University of Peradeniya. Ms. R herath, YMWGPK Udurawana, PN Gunarathne and K . Rajarathnam were among the presenters of the session. Prof. Richard Wickramarathne and Dr. Wasantha Premarathne were the judges of the session. Afternoon session was chaired by Prof. Amila Jayarathne and judges were Prof. Richard Wickramarathne and Dr. Wasantha Premarathne. The best paper award was won by YMWGPK Udurawana for the research paper titled as Impact of Experimental Marketing on tourists destination loyalty for sustainable tourism (Evidence’s from tourists cultural destinations in Sri Lanka)
Technical Session: Social Sciences
The parallel technical session II was held on the Social Sciences Track which was chaired by Emeritus Prof. P. Hewage Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka.
The Social Sciences technical session featured Five (05) timely crucial topics which discussed ‘Peace in Afghanistan in the Time of Taliban’ by Kavinda Jayasinghe, ‘Investigating Resistance to COVID-19 Vaccines and its Underlying Causes: A Descriptive Study of Young Adults in Sri Lanka’ presented by Ms. Chamodi Purijjila, ‘Investigating Occupational Stress & Work from Home Experience of Female University Academics in Sri Lanka: With Special Reference to Covid-19’ by presented by Ms. Randima Perera, ‘HIV through the Eyes of Others: Communication Campaigns over 30 Years’ presented by Ms. Madara Ranmuthugala and ‘Informal Care for Disabled and Elderly Population in Contemporary Sri Lankan Society’ by Ms. Ishari Gunarathna.
The best oral presentation of the track- Social Science was awarded to Ms. Ishari Gunarathna for the research presentation on ‘Informal Care for Disabled and Elderly Population in Contemporary Sri Lankan Society’.
The Social Sciences technical session was successfully concluded with insightful remarks from the Chairperson directed at all of the researchers and motivating all participants to create and disseminate knowledge through research studies.
Technical Session: Humanities
The event was chaired by Prof MG Lalith Ananda, Professor, Department of English and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenapura, Sri Lanka. Five papers were presented after the preliminary remarks by the chair. The first presentation was on the assessment of the knowledge and the use of metacognitive reading strategies among ESL learners by WS Sudusinghe. The second presentation was on peer-assessment: Sri Lankan English as a Second Language Teachers’ Perception by PBSL Pushpakumara. HMR Gunawardana and SK Amarasena presented An Analysis on How Current Social Media Trends affects the Transformation of Sri Lankan English Morphological Processes; A Study Based on ‘Aunty Netta’ YouTube channel. “Eye-Care and Blindness Literacy”: Need for Defining a New Construct was presented by T Suraweera, C Wickramaarachchi, A Gamage, C Wanniarachchi, K Mudalige, A Kalpashaka and S Bandara. The final presentation on Architecting the Nation: From Ceylon to Sri Lanka and the Role of the Evil Other was presented by DDL Willarachchi.
