FMSH Sessions at KDU IRC – 2019

Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) organized a number of academic sessions at the 12th International Research Conference of KDU (KDU IRC) held on the 11th and 12th of September, 2019. The sessions included a plenary session, posters session and a number of technical sessions within the two days of the conference.

The FMSH plenary session was chaired by Prof. Bob Simpson, Professor of Social Anthropology from Durham University, UK, and the main speakers of the session were – Dr. WA Wijewardena Former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka; Mr Damith Abeyratne, Head of Customer Service and Logistics, Unilever Sri Lanka Limited; and Dr Radhika De Silva, Head of the Department of Language Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka.

The final event of day one of the conference was the poster presentation, and the poster presented by HAS Arunashantha from Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, under the title “Spatial and Temporal Land Use Changes in South Western Coastal Belt in Sri Lanka with Special Reference to Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretariat” won the ‘Best Poster Presentation’ award.

The second day of the conference was allocated to technical sessions and the faculty organized eight technical sessions, which comprised of four sessions for the field of Management and two sessions each for the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. Altogether, more than 30 academic papers were presented during the technical sessions of the three respective fields.

The paper presented by B Ranasinghe and R Ajward under the title “Factors Affecting Green Entrepreneurial Intention among Small and Medium Enterprise Owners in Western Province, Sri Lanka”, won the award for the Best Paper of the Management sessions; and the paper titled “Effectiveness in Application of General Concept of Mindfulness (GCM) and Buddhist Concept of Mindfulness (BCM) in Psychotherapeutic Interventions”, presented by P Jayatilake and L Liyanage was awarded the Best Paper of the Social Sciences session. In addition, HIS Fernando and M Perera won the award for the Best Paper in Languages / Humanities for their paper titled “Blending Varied Concepts: Is it Effective in ESL Writing Class?
