Rashmi Mendis, Umasha Weerasinghe, Monali Wijayasinghe and Chamudi Mallawaarachchi, Intake 39 students following the BSc in Applied Data Science Communication degree, participated in the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2024 and became the second runners up in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Sri Lanka 2024. Their achievement was recognized at the awarding ceremony which was held at Microsoft Sri Lanka on the 18th of March 2024.
They presented their project idea under the title “Autumn for Autism” in front of a panel of industry leaders including Mr. Puneet Chandok, the Indian and South Asian President of Microsoft, Mr. Harsha Randeny, country manager Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives, and other Microsoft leads. The project was to invent and develop an app that utilizes early intervention activities to identify the risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children under 4 years old, supported by a personalized power BI dashboard for comprehensive monitoring and analysis.
In the words of the project team, “The Microsoft Imagine Cup was not just a competition; it was a platform for us to showcase the power of teamwork and collaboration in driving positive change while bringing KDU to the attention of the industry experts”.
