Dr. (Mrs.) Lakshika Liyanage, Senior Lecturer (Grade I) of the Department of Social Sciences at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, succeeded Mr. Kithsiri Amaratunga as the Dean of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities. She assumed her duties on the 12th September 2023. Dr. Liyanage holds a PhD and a Master of Arts in Social Work Studies from the University of Durham, UK, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya. Dr. Liyanage has been a dedicated member of the academic staff at KDU, initially joining as a Senior Lecturer (Grade II) in 2013. She also took on administrative responsibilities as the Head of the Department of Social Sciences from 2014 to 2017, and later served as the Director at the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality from 2020 to 2023.
The faculty expressed their appreciation for Mr. Amaratunga’s valuable contributions during his tenure as the Dean from 2020 to 2023.
Furthermore, the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities is pleased to announce the assumption of duties by Dr. (Mrs.) Thamra Jayasundera, Senior Lecturer (Grade I) on the same day, as the new Head of the Department of Social Sciences succeeding Mr. Nuwan Herath.
