Student mentoring has become a timely need for FMSH, considering the increase in student population and the issues they face, especially during the initial stage as undergraduates.
Prior to launching a mentoring programme at FMSH, with the view to enlighten faculty member, a presentation and a discussion on student mentoring was held on 12.02.2019 at the mini auditorium.
Professor S Wickramasuriya (Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KDU), one of the pioneers in implementing mentoring programmes at the University of Moratuwa and the Faculty of Engineering (KDU), made a presentation and shared his experience on student mentoring.
Prospective mentors of FMSH had a fruitful discussion with Professor Wickramasuriya and managed to clarify the grey areas on student mentoring.
The Dean-FMSH, Dr Namali Sirisoma assured launching of a mentoring programme for Intake 36 by the 3rd week of February. She further acknowledged the voluntary contribution made by Professor Wickramasuriya in educating the academic staff of FMSH on student mentoring, and thanked Dr Lakshika Liyanage for organizing the event.
