Despite the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, one of the most anticipated events on the KDU Calendar, the “KDU Logistics Day,” organized by the Technical Sciences and Management Society of the Department of Management and Finance, was successfully held on the 1st of June 2022 for the 8th consecutive year. Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Vice-Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, and Ms. Sujani Kumarasinghe; Head of Customer Experience at Maersk Lanka (Pvt) Ltd were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor of the event, respectively. This annual event had to be given a fresh outlook as the event was conducted physically after two years, with the timely theme of ‘Resilient Supply Chains for Economic Challenges in the Next Normal’. Launching the 7th edition of Logistics Times magazine, Sri Lanka’s first-ever logistics magazine, was also a part of the event.

In addition to the enlightening speeches given by both the Guest Speaker, Ms. Gayathri Karunanayake; Supply Chain Consultant at Logicare (Pvt) Ltd and Keynote Speaker, Mr. Chintaka de Zoysa; Director of a subsidiary company of Hayleys Advantis Group, the panel discussion conducted by industry experts conveyed valuable information to the audience on a variety of topics relating to the theme of the Logistics Day. This panel discussion enlightened the audience as it was about the possible recoveries to current economic crisis in the country through resilient supply chains. The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Dinesh Samarasinghe from Faculty of Business in University of Moratuwa, and he conversed with the panelists; Mr. Ibrahim Saleem from Hayleys Advantis Limited, Mr. Sathiyenthra Panchadcharam from Nestle Lanka PLC and Ms. Dhashma Karunaratne from Aitken Spence Maritime & Freight Logistics Cluster, bringing out modern industrial knowledge to the event.

With groundbreaking initiatives like the Article Competition running concurrently with the main event, this year’s event was a momentous occasion. Certificates were awarded to the winners of the Article Competition and tokens of appreciation were presented for the Guest of Honour, Guest Speaker, Keynote Speaker, Moderator and the Panelists of the panel discussion by the Vice-Chancellor. The event marked the conclusion by achieving its primary goal of showcasing the outstanding potential of the participants from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, as well as allowing undergraduates and postgraduates from other universities to improve their soft skills, preparing them for future professionalism.

Further, this event was participated by the Rector Metropolitan Campus, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Defence and Administration, Deans of Faculties, Directors, Heads of Departments and other academia, military and administrative officers, industry representatives and student representatives from other universities including Ocean University Sri Lanka, SLIIT and NSBM. With all of these significant occurrences and entertainment items showcasing aesthetic talents of the students which added glamour to the event, the day came to a close with a resounding success of yet another significant annual event of KDU
